An AI agent buys from the store it can finish checking out on. Here are five fixes that make your Shopify checkout agent-ready, in order of how often they block a sale.
1. Remove human-only pop-ups from the path
Discount wheels, email-capture modals, and age gates all stop an agent cold. A human dismisses them. An agent treats them as a dead end and picks another store. Move them off the purchase path.
2. Expose shipping cost and timing early
Agents want total cost before they commit. If shipping only appears at the final step, the agent can't evaluate the deal and may abandon. Show shipping cost and timing up front.
3. Make price and stock live in the HTML
If price loads via script or stock only shows in the cart, an agent can't confirm the order is real. Put both in the initial page and in valid Offer markup.
4. Keep guest checkout open
Forcing account creation is a human-only wall. Agents need a path that doesn't require a human to set a password and confirm an email. Guest checkout keeps that path clear.
5. State returns and policies as data
An agent weighs return terms as part of the decision. Vague or hidden policies read as risk. Put clear return and shipping terms where a machine can read them, and watch where Shopify's checkout rails are heading.

Frequently Asked Questions
What makes a Shopify checkout agent-ready?
A checkout an AI can complete without any human-only step. That means no forced pop-ups, shipping cost shown early, price and stock in the HTML, guest checkout available, and clear policies stated as data. Remove anything that only a person can click through.
Why do pop-ups hurt agentic checkout?
Pop-ups like discount wheels and email-capture modals require a human to dismiss them. An AI agent can't reliably close them, so it treats your checkout as blocked and moves to a store where it can complete the purchase on its own.
Will I lose email captures if I remove pop-ups from checkout?
You can keep captures elsewhere, on content pages or post-purchase, without blocking the buying path. The trade is small: a pop-up that blocks agents now costs you machine-driven sales, which are a growing share of checkout.
