Why aren't your products showing up in Google AI Overviews?
The short answer: Google can't verify your product well enough to recommend it. Your pages are probably missing complete Product schema, your key facts live inside images instead of text, and no independent source backs up what you claim. AI Overviews pick answers they can trust, and right now yours isn't easy to trust.
This frustrates good brands with real products. The store looks great. The photos are sharp. But AI Overviews don't read photos or vibes. They read structured, corroborated data.
The three gaps that keep you out
Gap one: incomplete schema. If your product pages don't carry Google's recommended Product structured data, with price, availability, and review fields, you're not giving the system anything to pull. Half-filled schema is nearly as bad as none.
Gap two: content trapped in images. Specs, materials, dimensions, and comparisons baked into a graphic are invisible to an AI reader. If a fact can't be selected as text, it can't be cited.
Gap three: no corroboration. AI Overviews cross-check. If your homepage is the only source claiming your product is "the best for sensitive skin," that's an unverified assertion. Reviews, roundups, and editorial mentions turn a claim into a confirmed fact.
How to actually fix it
1. Audit your Product schema. Run your top pages through Google's Rich Results Test. Fix every warning. Add GTIN or MPN, brand, price, availability, and AggregateRating.
2. Move facts into text. Rewrite product pages so specs and answers live in real paragraphs and lists. Keep the pretty images, but don't hide information inside them.
3. Answer the actual question. AI Overviews trigger on questions. Add short, direct sections that answer "is this waterproof," "does this fit wide feet," "how does this compare to X." Lead with the answer.
4. Build outside signals. Get real reviews on independent platforms and earn a mention or two in category roundups. Corroboration is what flips you from candidate to answer.
What not to waste time on
Don't chase word count. Don't stuff keywords. Don't buy "AI Overview submission" from anyone, it doesn't exist. The work is unglamorous: clean data, extractable content, real trust signals. That's the entire game.
The timeline to expect
Fix your schema and content this month and you're looking at weeks before Google recrawls and the Overviews reshuffle. This isn't a switch. It's compounding. The stores that started six months ago are already showing up, and the gap widens every week you wait.
Frequently asked questions
Why don't my products appear in Google AI Overviews?
Missing or partial Product schema, facts trapped in images, and no trusted third-party source to confirm your details.
Can I force Google to include my products?
No. There's no submission or paid slot. You earn inclusion by being the clearest, best-supported answer.
How long does it take to show up?
Weeks after fixing schema and content, since Google has to recrawl and Overviews update on their own cadence.
