Your Shopify store is invisible to AI shopping assistants if you never appear in their answers, your product data has blank fields, your schema is missing, your feed has errors, or no trusted site cites you. Most stores hit three or more of these. Here's how to spot them.
1. You never appear in AI shopping answers
Run buyer-style prompts in ChatGPT, Perplexity, and Google's AI surfaces for your category. If competitors show up and you never do, the assistant can't read or trust you yet. This is the clearest symptom.
2. Your product data has blank required fields
Export your products and sort by empty columns. Blank GTIN, brand, or availability fields mean assistants can't match you to shopper queries. In our audits, incomplete data is the most common cause of invisibility.
3. Your pages have little or no schema
Test a product page with Google's Rich Results Test. If Product and Offer schema don't show, assistants are guessing at your price and specs. Guessing usually means skipping you.
4. Your Merchant feed has errors
Open Google Merchant Center and check for disapprovals. A feed with errors doesn't reach the shopping and AI surfaces that read it. One error can sideline a whole category.
5. No trusted site cites your brand
Search for your brand in roundups, reviews, and category guides. If nothing credible mentions you, assistants have no third-party reason to recommend you. According to the original GEO research (arXiv), citations measurably raise visibility in generated answers.
