Your Shopify store is ready for agentic commerce when an AI agent can read your product data, trust your prices, check your policies, and complete a purchase without a human. This 10-point checklist gets you there. Work top to bottom.

Agentic commerce is AI agents shopping for people. Shopify is building the rails. The stores that finish this checklist first will compound a lead when agent-driven buying goes mainstream.

What does agentic commerce readiness actually mean?

It means every step an agent takes, from finding your product to paying for it, works cleanly. Readable data, trustworthy signals, and a checkout that accepts a legitimate agent. Ten things stand between most stores and that.

The 10-point checklist

1. Move all product data into text

Specs trapped in images don't exist to an agent. Sizes, materials, dimensions, compatibility. Put every one in readable text on the page.

2. Add complete Product schema to every page

Valid Product schema with an offers block, price, and availability. Test it in Google's Rich Results Test. One broken block reads as no block.

3. Fill every product feed field

Title, description, price, availability, brand, GTIN, category, attributes. Empty fields are blind spots agents can't work around.

4. Sync inventory and price in real time

Agents won't transact on data they can't trust. Stale stock gets your store skipped, sometimes for a week. Real-time sync is the price of admission.

5. Publish shipping, returns, and warranty in clean text

Agents check policies before they buy. Cost, delivery window, return terms. A PDF hides it. Plain text on the page exposes it. Expose it.

6. Add product identifiers

GTIN, brand, and MPN connect your product to the same item across the web. Identifiers let an agent verify you against outside sources.

7. Write descriptions that match intent

State what the product is, who it fits, and how it compares. Agents match text to shopper intent. Adjective soup matches nothing.

8. Earn third-party trust signals

Reviews, roundups, and guides that mention you give agents outside validation. No outside mention reads as risk. This is the slow, high-value part.

9. Check that your checkout accepts agents

Aggressive bot-blocking can reject legitimate buying agents. Make sure a real agent-driven purchase can actually complete. Test it before the market forces you to.

10. Measure your AI visibility

Track whether ChatGPT and Perplexity mention your store for your key queries. You can't fix a gap you never measured. Start here, then loop back to the top.

Why do this now instead of waiting?

Because the pain of staying the same is about to get bigger than the pain of change. I refused to adapt once, a decade ago, and watched competitors compound past me. The window on agentic commerce is open. It won't stay open for latecomers.

FAQ

How long does this checklist take?

The technical items can be done in a few weeks with a developer. The trust and visibility items take months. Start both now.

Which item matters most?

Readable product data with schema. Nothing downstream works until an agent can read your catalog.

Do I need custom development?

For catalog-wide schema and real-time sync, usually yes. Individual fixes you can handle in-house.

How do I know when I'm ready?

When an AI commerce audit scores your data, signals, and visibility as clean across the board.
