The product schema that gets you recommended is valid Product markup with accurate Offer data: price, availability, condition, and brand, stated as facts a machine can confirm. Miss those and AI has nothing solid to recommend.
Structured data feels technical and intimidating. It isn't. It's just handing the machine clean facts instead of making it dig them out of your HTML. That's the whole job.
Why does schema decide AI recommendations?
Because an AI assistant recommends what it can verify. It won't stake its answer on a price it had to guess. Clean Product data gives it something it can stand behind.
No markup, and the model has to reverse-engineer your catalog from messy page code. Sometimes it manages. Usually it just recommends the store that made the facts easy to read.
Which fields actually matter?
Start with the core four: name, brand, price, and availability. Those answer the questions every shopper asks and every agent checks first. Get them stated plainly and kept current.
Price and availability belong in Offer markup, following the Google product structured data guidelines. A stale price is worse than no price. It tells the model your data can't be trusted.
What makes schema fail validation?
Two things trip stores up. Duplicate blocks, where two conflicting Product entries load on one page, and mismatches, where the schema price says one thing and the visible price says another.
When the model catches a mismatch, it drops the data entirely rather than trust half of it. One wrong field can wipe out the value of every right one on the page.
How do you check your own products?
Run a few product URLs through Google's Rich Results Test. It shows you exactly what a machine reads from the page. If a field is missing there, it's missing to AI too.
Then ask ChatGPT to recommend a product like yours. If a competitor with cleaner data comes up and you don't, the test just showed you the gap in real time.
Where to start this week
Take your top ten products. Confirm each one has valid Product markup with a live price and accurate stock in Offer data. Fix any mismatch between schema and the visible page.
That's a few hours of work that decides whether AI can recommend you at all. Most of your competitors haven't done it. That's the opening.

Frequently Asked Questions
What product schema gets Shopify products recommended by AI?
Valid Product markup paired with accurate Offer data covering price, availability, condition, and brand. AI recommends products whose facts it can verify, so clean, current structured data is what makes a product eligible to be recommended at all.
Do I need schema if my products rank on Google?
Yes. Ranking on Google and being recommended by AI are two different systems. Structured data is how AI assistants read and confirm your product facts, so a store can rank well on Google and still be invisible to ChatGPT or Perplexity without it.
What's the most common product schema mistake?
Mismatched or stale data. When the schema price or stock status disagrees with the visible page, AI drops the data rather than trust part of it. Keeping price and availability accurate in Offer markup matters more than adding extra fields.
