An AI assistant is a question-answering machine. It cites the page that answered the question best. If your Shopify page doesn't answer the question, it doesn't get cited. Simple as that.
I spent years watching Google traffic decide who won. This is the same game with new judges. The stores that answer plainly get named. The clever ones get skipped.
Here's how to answer buyer questions on your pages so an AI cites you.
Why does AI cite one Shopify store and skip another?
Because one store answered the question on the page and the other made the model dig. Assistants reward the direct answer. They quote the sentence that resolves the question in plain words.
If a shopper asks "is this good for sensitive skin" and your page never says, the model can't cite you. It cites the brand that wrote it down.
Start from the questions people actually ask
List the real questions buyers ask about your product. Fit. Materials. Care. Compatibility. Shipping. Returns. Not the questions you wish they asked. The ones they type.
Your reviews and support inbox are full of them. Pull ten. Those ten are the questions an assistant will try to answer for a shopper, and your page should answer them first.
Put the answer in the first sentence
Write each answer so the first sentence resolves it. "Yes, this runs true to size." "No, this isn't dishwasher safe." Then add the detail underneath.
A model lifts the top sentence. If you bury the answer in paragraph three behind a story, it never reaches it. Lead with the answer every time.
Use a real FAQ block, marked up as data
Group the questions into an FAQ section and mark it up with FAQPage structured data. Follow Google's structured data guidance so the questions and answers are readable as data, not just text.
The markup tells the model, in plain terms, "this page answers these questions." That's the exact signal an assistant looks for before it cites a source.
Match the answer across page, schema, and feed
The answer on the page has to agree with your Product schema and your feed. If the page says true to size and the data says nothing, the model discounts the claim.
Consistency is the whole game. This is what a WRKNG audit measures. Which buyer questions your pages answer, which they dodge, and whether an assistant can trust the answer enough to cite you.

Frequently Asked Questions
How do I get AI to cite my Shopify store?
Answer the buyer's question directly on the page, in the first sentence, and mark it up as FAQPage data. Assistants cite the page that resolved the question in plain words. If your page makes the model dig, it cites a competitor who wrote the answer down.
Which buyer questions should I answer on a product page?
The real ones people type: fit, materials, care, compatibility, shipping, and returns. Pull ten from your reviews and support inbox. Those are the questions an assistant will try to answer for a shopper, so your page should answer them first.
Does FAQ schema help with AI citations?
Yes. FAQPage structured data tells a model, in plain terms, that your page answers specific questions. That is the signal an assistant looks for before choosing a source to cite, as long as the answers also match your product data.
Where should the answer go on the page?
In the first sentence of each answer. Lead with yes, no, or the number, then add detail underneath. Models lift the top sentence, so a buried answer behind a story never gets read or cited.
