A Shopify AI-visibility audit answers one question: can AI assistants find, read, and recommend your store? These nine checks cover it, and you can run them in an afternoon.

Work them in order. The early ones gate the later ones.

What is an AI-visibility audit?

It's a structured check of whether AI assistants can access your pages, understand your products, and trust your data enough to cite you. It's the AEO equivalent of a technical SEO audit, focused on being an answer instead of a ranking.

1. Can AI crawlers reach your pages?

Check your robots.txt and confirm you're not blocking the crawlers that feed AI assistants. If they can't reach you, nothing else counts.

2. Is your Product structured data valid?

Validate Product markup on your top pages. Invalid or missing schema means the model can't reliably confirm what you sell.

3. Are price and availability marked up and current?

Confirm a valid Offer object with live price and stock. Assistants won't recommend a product they can't verify is buyable.

4. Do your titles read like buyer language?

Scan your product titles. If they're SKU-style or vague, the model can't match them to queries. Rewrite them the way a shopper describes the product.

5. Do pages answer questions directly?

Open your key pages and read the first two sentences under each heading. They should answer the question plainly, so a model has something clean to quote.

6. Do you have FAQ content with schema?

Add question-style Q&A marked up with FAQPage. It's one of the highest-return AEO fixes, and most stores skip it entirely.

7. Is your content extractable, not buried?

Check the ratio of real content to boilerplate. Dense, substantive paragraphs get cited; content drowned in template markup does not.

8. Are there duplicate schema blocks?

Look for two FAQPage or HowTo blocks on one page. Duplicates can cause both to get dropped, so keep one canonical block per type.

9. Is your freshness signal honest?

Confirm dateModified reflects real updates and your sitemap carries a lastmod. Stale or missing freshness signals make assistants trust the page less.

Frequently Asked Questions

How long does a Shopify AI-visibility audit take?

For a small-to-mid store, an afternoon. The nine checks are mechanical: crawlability, structured data, offers, titles, direct answers, FAQ schema, content density, duplicate schema, and freshness. Larger catalogs take longer but follow the same steps.

What's the highest-return fix in an AI-visibility audit?

Usually FAQ content with FAQPage schema and cleaner product titles. Most stores skip both, and both directly affect whether a model can match and quote you.

How often should I re-run the audit?

After every meaningful platform, theme, or app update, plus a light monthly pass. Updates can silently break structured data and content structure.
