The mistake that kills AI visibility fastest is a mismatch between your schema and your visible page. When AI catches it, it drops your data entirely. Here are eight structured data mistakes to fix now.
Structured data is how you hand AI clean facts. These errors quietly hand it garbage instead, and you never see the recommendations you lose.
1. Schema price that doesn't match the page
If your Offer markup says one price and the visible page says another, AI treats your data as unreliable and drops it.
Keep the schema price and the displayed price in sync, always. This is the single most damaging mismatch.
2. Duplicate schema blocks on one page
Two conflicting Product or FAQPage blocks on the same page confuse the parser. Google can drop both rather than pick one.
Keep one clean, canonical block per type per page. More is not better here.
3. Missing GTIN or brand
Without a GTIN or brand, an assistant can't confirm your item is the exact product a shopper asked for. It can't recommend what it can't identify.
Fill these fields per the Google Merchant spec, starting with your best sellers.
4. Stale availability status
Marking a sold-out item in stock, or the reverse, breaks trust. Once AI catches it, it stops relying on your availability data.
Sync stock status to real inventory so the machine can trust what it reads.
5. Schema that describes the wrong thing
Applying Product markup to a category page, or Article markup to a product, sends AI mixed signals about what the page even is.
Match the schema type to the page's real purpose. Follow the product structured data guidelines.
6. Invalid or broken JSON-LD
A single syntax error can void the whole block. AI reads nothing from schema it can't parse, and you get zero credit for the effort.
Validate every template with the Rich Results Test before you trust it across the catalog.
7. Thin descriptions in the schema
A one-line description gives AI almost nothing to match against a query. Padding it with keywords is just as useless.
Write a real, specific description that states what the product is and who it's for.
8. No FAQPage markup where it belongs
Pages full of buyer questions with no FAQPage markup leave easy citations on the table. AI loves clean Q&A it can lift.
Mark up your real FAQs with plain, self-contained answers.

Frequently Asked Questions
What structured data mistake hurts AI visibility most?
A mismatch between your schema and your visible page, especially price. When AI catches your Offer markup disagreeing with the displayed price, it drops your data entirely rather than risk a wrong recommendation. Keeping schema and page in sync is the highest-priority fix.
Can too much structured data hurt me?
Yes. Duplicate schema blocks of the same type on one page confuse parsers, and Google may drop all of them. Keep one clean, canonical block per type per page, and validate the JSON-LD so a syntax error doesn't void the whole thing.
How do I find structured data mistakes on my store?
Run product URLs through Google's Rich Results Test to see what parses and what breaks. Check for price and stock mismatches against the visible page, missing GTIN or brand fields, and duplicate or invalid blocks. Fix your best sellers first.
