AI shopping assistants read your feed before your page. A handful of fields do most of the work of getting you recommended. Here are the eight that matter, and what each one decides.
Blank fields aren't neutral. To a machine trying to avoid a wrong answer, a blank is a reason to pick someone else.
1. Availability
The first field an assistant checks. Recommending something out of stock is the worst outcome, so availability gates everything else.
Keep it current and machine-readable in both feed and page. A stale in-stock flag is worse than none.
2. Price
An assistant won't recommend what it can't price. Missing or JavaScript-loaded price reads as a blank and drops you.
It also has to match your page. A feed and page that disagree on price is a contradiction the assistant may resolve by skipping you.
3. GTIN or MPN
The identifier that lets AI match your item to the catalog it already trusts. Without it, you're an unverified stranger in a comparison.
Per the Merchant Center spec, this is required wherever a GTIN exists. AI shopping treats it the same way.
4. Brand
Brand ties your product to reputation and to branded queries. "Best [brand] running shoe" can't surface a product with no brand field.
Fill it consistently. The same product under two brand spellings fractures your visibility.
5. Product title
The title is how an assistant matches your item to a request. Stuff it with fluff and you blur the match. Keep it specific: brand, product, key attribute.
Write it for a machine parsing a request, not for a clever headline.
6. Product type and category
Category tells the assistant which shortlist you belong on. Miscategorize and you compete in the wrong bucket, or none.
Use one consistent scheme across your whole catalog so relationships stay clean.
7. Shipping details
"Ships by Friday" is a real filter now. An assistant honoring a delivery deadline needs shipping data to include you.
Missing shipping info quietly removes you from any time-bound request, which is a growing share of them.
8. Image link
A working, high-quality image URL. Broken or missing images weaken you in surfaces that show a product visually.
It's basic, and it's exactly the kind of thing that breaks silently after a theme change. Check it.

Frequently Asked Questions
Which product feed fields matter most for AI recommendations?
Availability and price come first, then GTIN or MPN, brand, a specific product title, accurate category, shipping details, and a working image link. AI assistants check availability and price before anything else and treat blanks as a reason to recommend a competitor instead.
Why does a missing GTIN cost me AI visibility?
The GTIN lets an assistant match your product to the broader catalog it already trusts, so without it you're an unverified item in any comparison. Google's Merchant Center spec requires it wherever a GTIN exists, and AI shopping favors products it can positively identify.
Do shipping fields affect whether AI recommends my products?
Yes, increasingly. Shoppers ask assistants for items that arrive by a certain date, and an assistant honoring that deadline needs shipping data to include you. Missing shipping info silently removes you from a growing share of time-bound requests.
