What does an AI agent check before it buys from your store?
Whether the product matches the request, whether it's in stock, whether the price and terms are clear, and whether your data holds up. Any gap is a reason to pick a competitor.
Agentic buying is coming to more categories. Here are the seven checks your store needs to pass.
1. The product matches the request
The agent confirms your product genuinely fits what the shopper asked for, down to the attributes. A close-but-not-quite match gets dropped.
Complete attributes are how you prove the match. Vague listings fail this first test.
2. It's actually in stock
An agent won't complete a purchase it can't fulfill, so availability has to be current and correct. Out-of-date stock status is an instant disqualifier.
Keep availability synced in real time across your feed and page.
3. The price is clear and current
The agent needs a real, present price, including how sale pricing applies. Ambiguity here makes the transaction risky, so it moves on.
Match the price in your feed, schema, and page so nothing conflicts.
4. Shipping and returns are stated
Clear shipping costs, timelines, and a readable returns policy let the agent complete the buy with confidence. Hidden terms are a reason to hesitate.
Put these in text a machine can parse, not only in a PDF or image.
5. Your schema agrees with your page
The agent cross-checks your Product schema against the visible facts. When they match, it trusts the data. When they don't, it bails.
Validate every template so price and availability line up everywhere.
6. The store looks trustworthy
Readable trust signals, ratings, review counts, and clear contact and policy pages, tell an agent you're a safe place to send a shopper's money.
Surface those signals in structured, machine-readable form.
7. The data is consistent end to end
The agent wants the same story across feed, schema, and page. Consistency, matched to the Google Merchant product data specification, is what lets it act without second-guessing.
One conflicting field can stall an otherwise perfect match.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is agentic buying really happening yet?
It's early but building fast, with platform pieces rolling out across the ecosystem. Preparing your data now means you're ready when agent-driven purchases become common in your category.
What's the most common reason an agent skips a store?
Ambiguous or missing data, especially availability and price. If an agent can't confirm the product is in stock at a clear price, it picks a competitor it can verify.
Do I need new technology for agentic commerce?
Less than you'd expect. The biggest lever is complete, consistent, machine-readable product data and validated schema, which are things you can fix today without new tools.
How do I test whether an agent could buy from me?
Ask an AI assistant a real buyer request in your category and check whether your product surfaces with correct price, stock, and terms. The gaps in that answer are the checks you're failing.
