AI shopping season is coming, and assistants will only recommend products they can read and trust. The time to fix your structured data is before the traffic shows up, not during it.
Here are seven checks to run on your Shopify store now, so an assistant has everything it needs when buyers start asking.
1. Confirm Product schema is present on every product
Run a few product pages through the Schema.org validator and confirm a Product schema block exists. Missing schema means the assistant is reading a blank spec sheet.
If any product lacks it, that's the first fix. No schema, no reliable read.
2. Check that price and availability are filled, not blank
Many themes output the schema structure but leave price and availability empty. An empty field is worse than no field, because it signals data you can't trust.
Confirm real values are present and pulled from live product data.
3. Verify schema price matches page price
Compare the number in your schema to the number a shopper sees. If they disagree, an assistant treats your price as unreliable and backs away.
Make them match, per variant and currency.
4. Validate your FAQ schema
FAQ schema maps your answers to the questions buyers ask assistants. Confirm it's present and valid on key pages.
Clean FAQ markup gives the assistant ready-made answers to quote.
5. Check entity consistency across the page
Your brand name, contact details, and product facts should read the same everywhere on the page and in the schema. Inconsistency makes the assistant less confident.
Standardize naming so your data agrees with itself.
6. Confirm dateModified is current
Stale-looking data gets trusted less. A current dateModified tells the assistant your facts reflect reality now.
Update it when the product changes and keep sitemaps fresh.
7. Test against the guidelines a real crawler uses
Run your product data against the Google product structured data guidelines. That's the standard the crawlers actually check.
Fix anything flagged before the season, not during it.

Frequently Asked Questions
What structured data should I check before AI shopping season?
Start with Product schema presence, filled price and availability fields, and a schema price that matches the page. Then validate FAQ schema, entity consistency, and a current dateModified so assistants can read and trust your products.
Why is an empty schema field worse than no field?
An empty price or availability field signals data the assistant can't trust, which can lower confidence in the whole listing. Filling fields with real, live values is better than leaving the structure blank.
How do I know my schema is valid?
Run your product pages through a schema validator and the Google product structured data guidelines. Both flag missing or malformed fields so you can fix them before traffic arrives.
Does dateModified really matter for AI?
Yes. Data that looks stale gets trusted less, so a current dateModified helps signal that your facts reflect reality now. Update it whenever the product changes.
