The 7 Shopify Summer '26 features that matter most for AI commerce are sitting in your admin right now, waiting to be turned on. Editions drops June 17. If you haven't enabled these before then, you're already starting behind.

1. Agentic Storefront Mode

This is the big one. Agentic Storefront Mode lets AI shopping assistants, ChatGPT Shopping, Perplexity, and Google AI Mode, browse, compare, and surface your products directly inside their interfaces without redirecting customers to Google first. To enable it, go to Online Store > Themes > AI Commerce Settings and toggle "Allow AI Agent Access." According to Shopify's Summer '26 Editions preview, stores in the closed beta saw a 31% increase in AI-referred sessions within 60 days of enabling it.

2. Extended Product Catalog AI Fields

Summer '26 adds 31 new structured data fields to Shopify's product catalog, fields like ai_description, use_case_tags, and compatibility_matrix. These are the fields AI assistants read when they decide whether to recommend your product over a competitor's. Navigate to Products > Catalog Settings > AI Fields and fill them in. Incomplete AI fields are the single biggest reason stores get skipped in AI recommendations right now.

3. AI Checkout Confidence Scoring

Shopify now surfaces a real-time AI Confidence Score at checkout, a signal that tells both shoppers and AI agents how complete and trustworthy your product data is. Shopify's documentation shows stores scoring above 85 convert at 2.1x the rate of stores with incomplete data. Enable it under Settings > Checkout > AI Commerce, then use the score to identify which product pages need work first.

4. Sidekick Commerce Intelligence

The old Sidekick answered questions. The new one finds problems before you ask. Sidekick Commerce Intelligence connects your store's sales data to live AI market signals, competitive gaps, positioning mismatches, products you're losing on because of thin data. Go to Apps > Sidekick > Commerce Intelligence and enable the Market Signals integration. It's the closest thing to having an analyst watching your store 24/7.

5. Google AI Mode Product Feed Sync

Google AI Mode is now the default search experience for over 40% of U.S. Google users, according to Google's I/O 2026 announcement. Summer '26 adds a dedicated AI Mode product feed that syncs separately from your standard Shopping feed, with different field weights and a new "merchant authority score" that affects how often your products appear. Go to Sales Channels > Google > AI Mode Feed and complete the required fields. Your existing Shopping feed won't cut it.

6. ACP 2.0 Protocol Headers

The Agentic Commerce Protocol (ACP) is what lets AI agents authenticate, browse, and place orders on your store on behalf of customers. Version 2.0, shipping with Summer '26, adds support for multi-step agent sessions and stronger permission scoping. Shopify enables the headers automatically, but you need to review and approve your default permission settings before June 17. Go to Settings > Agentic Commerce > Protocol Settings. The Shopify ACP developer docs walk through what each permission scope controls. Don't skip this.

7. AI Discovery Analytics Dashboard

For the first time, Shopify breaks out AI-driven discovery as a standalone channel in Analytics. Sessions from ChatGPT, Perplexity, Copilot, and Google AI Mode are no longer buried in "Direct" or "Other." You'll see which products AI recommends most, where you have visibility gaps, and how AI-referred sessions convert compared to organic. Enable it under Analytics > Channels > AI Discovery. This is the data you've been making decisions without.

How We Chose This List

These seven features were selected based on one filter: which ones directly affect whether AI assistants find, recommend, and send traffic to your store. Features that improve internal workflow or reporting for its own sake didn't make the cut. Everything here connects to AI commerce readiness.

FAQ

Q: Do I need a Shopify Plus plan to access these features?

Most of them, including Agentic Storefront Mode, ACP 2.0, and the AI Discovery dashboard, are available on all Shopify plans. Sidekick Commerce Intelligence with Market Signals is currently in preview for Plus merchants first, with broader rollout expected by August 2026.

Q: If Shopify Editions doesn't drop until June 17, why enable things now?

Several has are already live in admin as pre-release toggles, including the Extended Catalog AI Fields and AI Checkout Confidence Scoring. Enabling them now means your store is indexed and scored before the Editions launch drives a wave of merchants activating the same settings at once.

Q: What happens if I don't enable Agentic Storefront Mode?

AI shopping assistants can still surface your products, but only through limited public data. Without Agentic Storefront Mode enabled, AI agents get a read-only snapshot of your store. They can't check live inventory, apply filters, or complete purchases on a customer's behalf. That's the gap.

Q: How is the Google AI Mode feed different from my regular Google Shopping feed?

The AI Mode feed uses a different ranking model that weights use-case relevance and structured attribute completeness over price and review count. A product with complete AI fields but average reviews can outrank a five-star product with thin data. That's a significant shift from how traditional Shopping worked.

Q: Where do I start if I only have an hour before June 17?

Enable Agentic Storefront Mode first. Then complete the Extended Catalog AI Fields for your top 20 products. Those two actions cover the biggest gap most Shopify stores have right now.

If you want to know exactly how AI-ready your Shopify store is before June 17, get your AI commerce readiness score at WRKNG Digital. We've audited over 2,400 products across live stores. Most aren't ready. The ones that are will have a compounding advantage that's very hard to close later.
