After the 2026 Summer release, audit these seven Shopify settings: agentic checkout, markets and currency, metafields for AI, crawler access, structured data output, feed sync frequency, and checkout extensions. New releases quietly change defaults. These are the ones that touch AI visibility.
Every release reshuffles something. Here's what to check this time.
1. Agentic checkout settings
Shopify keeps expanding agent-ready checkout. Confirm it's enabled and configured after the update. The Shopify changelog is where these settings get announced. A release can flip a default you'll want to verify.
2. Markets and currency
If you sell internationally, check that currency and pricing display correctly per market. AI assistants read price in context. A currency mismatch after an update makes your feed look unreliable.
3. Metafields for AI attributes
Metafields hold the extra product attributes AI uses to match queries. After a release, confirm your metafield definitions and their output still map into your structured data and feed. This is where custom attributes quietly break.
4. Robots.txt and crawler access
Theme and platform updates can reset robots rules. Check that AI crawlers like OAI-SearchBot and GPTBot aren't blocked. OpenAI lists its crawlers here. I've seen a theme update quietly re-block bots a store spent months getting indexed by.
5. Structured data output
Run a few product pages through a schema validator after the update. Theme changes are the number one cause of broken Product schema. If your markup disappeared, AI can't read your products until it's back.
6. Product feed sync frequency
Confirm your feed still syncs daily. App updates and platform changes sometimes reset sync schedules. A feed that silently dropped to weekly is a slow leak on your AI visibility.
7. Checkout extensions
New checkout extensions can add popups or steps that block AI agents. After a release, run an agent through checkout and make sure nothing new stands in the way. Test it. Don't assume.
How We Chose This List
These seven come from post-release audits on live Shopify stores. We focused on the settings that touch AI shopping visibility and agentic checkout, since those break most quietly.
FAQ
Q: Does every Shopify release change these settings?
Not every one, but any release can reset a default. A quick audit after each major release is cheap insurance.
Q: How do I check my structured data quickly?
Run key product pages through a schema validator or an AEO readiness scan that flags missing markup.
Q: What breaks most often after an update?
Structured data output from theme changes. It's the single most common post-release regression I see.
