Your Shopify theme probably added Product schema for you. It probably left half of it blank. AI search reads the blanks as missing facts and moves on.

Here are the 7 schema properties stores skip most, and why each one matters to a model deciding what to recommend.

1. offers.availability

This tells the model whether the product is in stock. Skip it and the assistant won't recommend a product it can't confirm is buyable. Sync it to real inventory, not a hardcoded value.

2. offers.price and priceCurrency

Price is one of the first things a buyer weighs, so it's one of the first things a model checks. A missing or stale price gets you left out of any recommendation where cost matters. Keep it live and matching the page.

3. aggregateRating and reviewCount

Ratings are social proof a model can read. When two products match a query, the one with a visible rating wins the recommendation. Follow the Google product structured data guidelines and only mark up real reviews.

4. material

Material is how models filter queries like "wool sweater" or "stainless pan." A blank material field drops you out of every one of those searches. Fill it from the real spec, not a guess.

5. gtin or mpn

A global identifier lets the model match your product across sources and trust it's the real thing. Without it, you're a page making claims; with it, you're a verified product. Add it wherever you have one.

6. brand

Brand helps a model answer "which brands make X" and match branded queries. Stores selling their own line skip this constantly. Name the brand explicitly, even if it's your store's own label.

7. additionalProperty for specs

Fit, dimensions, capacity, compatibility. The Product schema lets you express these as additionalProperty pairs, and most stores never do. This is where you answer the specific question that wins the sale.

Frequently Asked Questions

Which schema properties do Shopify stores skip most?

The ones themes leave blank: offers.availability, price, aggregateRating, material, gtin or mpn, brand, and additionalProperty specs. AI search reads each of these to match and rank products, so a blank field usually means you're excluded from that result.

Does my Shopify theme add complete Product schema?

Usually not. Most themes ship partial schema with core fields and leave attributes like material, brand, and specs empty. Check what your theme actually outputs and fill the gaps rather than assuming it's complete.

How do I check my Shopify product schema?

Run a product page through the Schema.org validator to see which properties are present and valid, then confirm the values match your live product and feed. Fix blanks and mismatches before they cost you recommendations.
