To show up in Perplexity shopping results, your Shopify store needs three things: a page Perplexity's crawler can read, structured product data it can parse, and citations from sites it already trusts. Nail those and your products get pulled into the answer, not buried under it.
Perplexity built a shopping experience with product cards, "Buy with Pro," and a Merchant Program, and its Comet browser can now navigate stores and check out on a shopper's behalf. That changes who you're writing for. Here are the six things that actually move the needle.
1. Let Perplexity's crawler read your store
Perplexity uses its own crawler, PerplexityBot, to index pages for answers, and it publishes the user agent and IP ranges in its bot documentation. If your robots.txt or a firewall blocks it, you are invisible before the game even starts. Check your robots.txt, confirm PerplexityBot is allowed, and make sure your key pages render without JavaScript the bot can't execute.
2. Mark up every product with Product schema
Answer engines read Product structured data to understand what you sell, what it costs, and whether it's in stock. Shopify themes ship with some of this, but most stores are missing price, availability, and review markup in the JSON-LD. Add complete Product schema with offers, price, priceCurrency, and availability so Perplexity can lift the facts straight off the page.
3. Write content Perplexity can actually cite
Perplexity answers questions and footnotes its sources, so it favors pages that answer a question directly in plain text. A product page that opens with specs, use cases, and a clear "who this is for" gets cited more than one that opens with a hero banner and nothing to read. Put the answer in the first sentence, then support it.
4. Put real reviews on the page
Perplexity's shopping answers lean on reviews and comparisons to rank products, and it pulls sentiment from review text, not just a star count. Get your reviews rendered as real on-page text with Review schema, not locked inside a third-party widget that loads as an image or iframe. A page with ten readable, specific reviews beats a page with a "4.8 stars" badge and no words behind it.
5. Show clear price and availability
When Comet shops for someone, it needs to know the price is current and the item is in stock before it surfaces or buys. Hidden prices, "add to cart to see price," and stale availability get you skipped. Keep price and stock accurate in both the visible page and the structured data, because the two are cross-checked.
6. Get mentioned on sites Perplexity trusts
Perplexity weights sources by authority, so a mention in a product roundup, a review site, or a reputable publication carries more weight than anything on your own domain. Reddit threads, "best of" lists, and press coverage all feed the answer. Earn those mentions and you show up even in answers that never link to your store directly.
How We Chose This List
We based these six tactics on how Perplexity publicly documents its crawler, shopping features, and Comet browser, plus what we see move Shopify stores into AI answers across live client work. Each one maps to a specific part of how Perplexity finds, reads, and ranks products.
FAQ
Q: Does Perplexity have a shopping feature?
Yes. Perplexity launched shopping with product cards, one-click "Buy with Pro" checkout, and a Merchant Program, and its Comet browser can browse stores and complete purchases for a user.
Q: What crawler does Perplexity use to find products?
PerplexityBot indexes pages for Perplexity's answers. You can allow it in robots.txt, and Perplexity publishes the user agent and IP ranges in its official bot documentation.
Q: What schema should a Shopify store use for Perplexity shopping?
Use Product schema with complete offers data, including price, priceCurrency, and availability, plus Review schema for ratings. This lets Perplexity pull accurate facts straight off your page.
Q: How long does it take to show up in Perplexity shopping results?
Once your pages are crawlable and marked up, it depends on how often Perplexity re-indexes your site and earns authority signals. Fixing crawlability and schema is fast. Earning trusted mentions takes longer.
