6 Product Feed Mistakes That Keep AI From Recommending You

Most stores that AI assistants skip aren't skipped for their products. They're skipped for their feed. Here are six mistakes that quietly keep AI from recommending you.

All six are fixable without a developer. Start at the top, because that's where the model reads first.

Why does the feed decide whether AI recommends you?

Because the feed is what the model reads to understand and verify your products. If the top fields are weak, the assistant moves on before it ever reaches the good part of your catalog.

1. SKU-style titles

Titles like "4471-BLU-M" tell a machine nothing. Write them the way a buyer describes the product, following the Google Merchant specification. Type, key attribute, defining spec.

2. Descriptions full of brand poetry

Adjectives an assistant can't verify get ignored. Lead the description with what the item is, who it's for, the material, and the use. Facts a model can repeat are what win the recommendation.

3. Missing or stale prices

A missing price disqualifies you outright. An assistant won't recommend something it can't confirm is buyable at a real number, so keep price current and mark it up with a valid Offer.

4. Availability that doesn't match reality

If your feed says in stock and your store says sold out, the model learns not to trust you. Sync availability to live inventory so the assistant can rely on it.

5. No structured data on the product

Raw HTML forces the model to guess. Valid Product markup per Google's guidelines gives it a confirmed record, which is what it trusts.

6. Fixing fields in the wrong order

Chasing GTINs and shipping weights before titles and descriptions is backwards. Fix in the order the model reads: title, description, price, availability, then everything else.

Frequently Asked Questions

What feed mistakes hide my products from AI?

The common ones are SKU-style titles, vague descriptions, missing or stale prices, availability that doesn't match live inventory, no product structured data, and fixing low-priority fields before the top ones. Each one gives the model a reason to skip you.

Which feed field should I fix first?

The title, then the description, then price and availability. That's the order AI assistants read, so it's the order you fix. Lower fields like GTIN are tiebreakers, not deciders.

Do I need a developer to fix my product feed?

Usually not. Rewriting titles and descriptions, correcting prices, and syncing availability are content fixes. Adding structured data may take a theme or app setting, but it's rarely custom code.
