5 Structured Data Types That Help AI Recommend Your Shopify Products

The structured data types that help AI recommend your Shopify products are Product schema, Offer schema, AggregateRating and Review schema, FAQPage schema, and Organization schema. Structured data is machine-readable code that tells AI exactly what your page and products are. Without it, assistants have to guess, and they usually guess someone else. Here are the five to add first.

Here's the thing. AI doesn't read your page like a human. It reads the schema. Most Shopify stores ship almost none of it, which is why they get skipped.

1. Product Schema

Product schema tells assistants the name, brand, description, and attributes of each item. It's the base layer for any AI product recommendation. Google documents every field in its Product structured data guide.

2. Offer Schema

Offer schema carries price, currency, and availability, which assistants use to filter by budget and stock. Wrong or missing Offer data gets your product dropped from budget-based answers. Keep it synced with your live inventory.

3. AggregateRating and Review Schema

Review schema exposes your rating and review count as trust signals AI uses to rank between similar products. A product with visible ratings beats an identical one without. Add it through a supported reviews app.

4. FAQPage Schema

FAQPage schema marks up your questions and answers so assistants can lift them directly into responses. This is one of the strongest citation formats, since AI loves clean question-answer pairs. Keep one FAQ block per page, not duplicates.

5. Organization and Brand Schema

Organization schema establishes who your store is, with consistent name, logo, and contact data across pages. This builds the entity trust AI needs before recommending you. Schema.org lists the properties at schema.org/Organization.

How We Chose This List

We ranked these five by how directly they influence AI product recommendation, based on audits of live Shopify stores. Product and Offer come first because nothing works without them.

FAQ

Q: Does Shopify add structured data automatically?

Some themes add basic Product schema, but most stores have gaps in Offer, Review, and FAQ markup. Audit your pages with Google's Rich Results Test to see what's actually there.

Q: What happens if I have duplicate schema blocks?

Duplicate FAQPage or HowTo blocks can cause search engines to drop both from rich results. Keep one canonical block per type per page.

Q: Do I need all five types on every page?

Product and Offer belong on product pages, Review where you have ratings, FAQ where you answer questions, and Organization site-wide. Match the type to the page.
