Perplexity Shopping passed 10 million monthly product searches in early 2026, according to Perplexity's own published metrics. Most Shopify stores aren't showing up because their product feeds have five fixable problems.
These aren't theoretical improvements. Each one directly affects whether Perplexity's shopping index can read, classify, and serve your products. Fix all five and you're in better shape than roughly 89% of Shopify stores we've audited.
1. Fix Your Product Titles to Match Buyer Intent Queries
Perplexity Shopping surfaces products based on how well the title matches what someone actually typed. Most Shopify store titles are written for humans browsing a category page, not for AI systems parsing natural language queries.
Rewrite titles to front-load the category plus key product attribute within the first 70 characters. "Women's Merino Wool Crew Neck Sweater - Navy - Medium" outperforms "The Everyday Sweater | Classic Collection" every time. Google Merchant Center's title best practices apply directly here since Perplexity pulls from the same feed.
2. Map Products to Google Product Taxonomy Categories
If your feed has blank or generic category fields, Perplexity can't classify your products correctly and they won't surface in filtered shopping results. Google's Product Taxonomy has over 6,000 categories. You need the right one.
Go to Google's published taxonomy list and find the most specific match for each product type you sell. In Shopify, this goes in the Google product category field in your Google and YouTube sales channel settings. Takes 10-15 minutes for a typical catalog of 50-200 products using bulk edit.
3. Sync Price and Availability in Real Time
Perplexity flags and drops listings where the feed price doesn't match the live product page price. A $2 discrepancy is enough. So is showing "in stock" for a product you ran out of yesterday.
Set your Google Shopping feed to refresh every 30 minutes or less. In Shopify, go to your Google and YouTube channel settings and set the feed sync frequency to the shortest available interval. If you're using a third-party feed app like Simprosys or Shopping Feeder, check the refresh schedule in the app dashboard. Most stores are set to daily by default, that's too slow.
4. Add Review Snippet Structured Data
Perplexity Shopping shows star ratings when it finds valid AggregateRating markup inside your Product schema. Without it, your listing shows no rating while competitors with identical products show 4.8 stars and 300 reviews.
Shopify's native theme doesn't output Product schema with ratings by default. You need either a reviews app that generates it automatically, Judge.me and Stamped.io both do, or a manual addition to your product template. Validate your output with Schema.org's validator before assuming it's working.
5. Use the Correct Image Dimensions and Format
Perplexity deprioritizes product listings with images under 500px on either side, and it outright rejects images that are heavily watermarked, obstructed by promo badges, or showing multiple products at once. Most Shopify themes compress images on upload.
Upload product images at 800x800px minimum, JPEG or PNG, with the product on a clean white or neutral background. Check your current image sizes in Shopify admin under Settings > Files or directly in the product editor. If you uploaded images years ago at lower resolutions, re-upload at the correct spec. This alone moves a lot of listings from rejected to eligible.
FAQ
Does Perplexity Shopping use Google Shopping feeds?
Perplexity Shopping pulls product data from multiple sources including Google Shopping feeds, Bing Shopping, and direct merchant data. Having a clean, accurate Google Shopping feed is the fastest path to Perplexity visibility since it's already a data source Perplexity indexes.
What are Perplexity Instant Buy requirements for Shopify stores in 2026?
Perplexity Instant Buy requires accurate product pricing, real-time availability data, valid checkout URLs, and structured product data including category taxonomy. Shopify stores need a properly formatted product feed with price freshness under 30 minutes and complete Product schema markup to qualify.
How long does it take for Shopify products to appear in Perplexity Shopping after feed fixes?
After fixing your product feed, indexing in Perplexity Shopping can take 24-72 hours. Stores that were previously flagged for stale data or missing taxonomy may take longer to re-qualify. The feed fixes themselves take under 30 minutes to apply.
Do Shopify product reviews show up in Perplexity Shopping results?
Yes, but only if you have AggregateRating structured data in your Product schema markup. Shopify doesn't add this automatically. You need a reviews app that outputs valid schema or you need to add it manually through your theme.
What image size does Perplexity Shopping require?
Perplexity Shopping favors product images that are at least 800x800 pixels, in JPEG or PNG format, showing the product on a clean background. Images under 500px on either dimension are frequently rejected or deprioritized in shopping results.
